Tiller’s Mechanism of Working

Working of tiller involves the use of mechanized motor that runs the tills attached with the motor. The mechanized motor helps in the rotation of tills that in turn plough the land and make it suitable for the purpose.

In order to provide stability, a key is provided behind the tills to underpin the machine where needed. This key helps in the rotation of the tiller about its axis. To control the speed and direction of the tiller, clutch levers and handles are provided and it works by pulling the clutch levers toward the handlebar.

How to use a Tiller? OPERATION OF A TILLER MACHINE:

  • In order to start the tiller machine, the first step is to switch on the switch of the motor.
  • The second step involves the employment of a choke in order to turn on the motor. (See an image, Switch and Choke are very closed)
  • The third step requires the opening of the throttle for fuel to pass into the motor.
  • Before starting the machine, it is important to align the depth adjusters according to the need.
  • Then comes the task of pulling the chord. Once the motor starts, it is important to deploy the choke employed in the first place. (Turn Off Choke once the engine is already working)
  • After the motor has started, the clutch levers need to be pulled in order for the tills to start moving.

Use Tillers to Remove Grass

In order to remove grass from the land, the tiller is used. First, the existing grass is reduced with the help of a lawnmower. Next, the presence of rocks and stones is detected and removed so that they don’t interfere with the working of the tiller. Now the tiller comes into action. Place your tiller on one end of the land you wish to till and start the motor of the tiller machine, press the clutch levers so that its tines start to roll. Lift up the key behind the blades in order to move it forward.

Use Tiller to Remove Weed

Removal of weed is similar to that of grass. In the removal of grass or weed, it is important to be aware of the type of land that is being tilled. In case of hard land, it is advised to spray water on the land in order to soften it up.

How to use Rototiller for Leveling a Yard?

To level a non-uniform yard into a levelled one tiller is employed. To do so, start the tilling operation with the help of a tiller at the top of the grade and till toward the low end of the yard. Once that has been done then rake the lawn in order to level the yard.

Shovel the excess soil the top grade toward the low grade and rake it up again. Then water the soil so that it can be levelled. To verify if the yard is truly levelled, use a scrap metal plate or cardboard wood of square dimension and use carpenter’s level to check. If it levels out then good, if not then repeat the above procedure again.

USE ON A HARD SURFACE

Hard surface provides a challenge to both the machine and the plantations. Tilling a hard surface can damage the tines of the tiller. So, in order to till a hard surface, the first step should be the preparation of soil. It involves the removal of stones and rocks from the land to be tilled.

Rocks and stones are dangerous for the operation of the machine. Once the soil is prepared, then comes the step of providing moisture to the soil. Hard soil is usually dry, and it poses a challenge, as using a tiller on such soil will break down the soil into tiny particles prone to erosion and weathering.

To avoid that, water is applied over the soil in order to soften it up. Once that has been done, the soil is ready to be tilled by the tiller. In the case of a hard surface, the tilling operation can be carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the depth of the tines is kept between 6 to 8 inches and then in the second stage, the same land is tilled with deeper tines.

TILLER AND CULTIVATOR

Tiller is primarily used for breaking the hard surface of the land and mixing it with its soft bed. Tiller is a powerful piece of equipment that helps in heavy-duty tasks associated with land or gardening. Whereas, the cultivator is primarily employed to enhance the capabilities of the soil and keep the garden soil healthy.

It involves mixing and aerating soil before planting, blending fertilizer and composite and controlling weed growth. On one hand, tillers transform soil into bigger granular particles of soil, whereas on the other hand, tiller transforms soil into fine soil particles.
